ASSISTANT HOUSE MANAGER

McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, the region’s leading performing arts center, located in Princeton, NJ, is looking for a charismatic Assistant House Managers available to work evening and weekend performances throughout the season from September 2016 through June 2017. This part-time, seasonal position is a key member of our Front of House staff who will represent McCarter Theatre and its vision to patrons, artists and other guests. This position also works closely with Stage Management and Production crews in order to ensure that the performance runs smoothly and that Artistic needs are met. Under the supervision of the House Services Manager, the AHM will facilitate the running of shows from the patron’s point-of-view, which includes the following responsibilities:

  • Managing and motivating Front of House Staff members including bartenders, ticket scanning personnel, and Security personnel
  • Facilitating the flow of patrons while in the theatre to ensure that the performance begins sharply at the appropriate time.
  • Being a warm, engaging leader for the team of volunteer ushers
  •  Interacting with patrons to ensure great guest service while upholding seating policies
  • Executing emergency evacuation procedures
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the house manager

We are looking for individuals with the following qualities -

  • A passion for the performing arts
  • Emits confidence while still appearing approachable
  • Excellent customer service skills that embody a “Patron First” mentality
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory or managerial experience
  • Ability to take charge of a situation, delegate, and multi-task
  • Cash handling experience
  • An attention to detail and constant anticipation of what comes next
  • Ability to think out of the box in a time-sensitive environment
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and during the holidays. Please note that there is no performance on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.

BARTENDER/CAFÉ SERVER

McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, the region’s leading performing arts center, located in Princeton, NJ, is looking for motivated Bartenders/ Café Servers to work evening and weekend performances throughout the season from September 2016 through June 2017.  Bartenders/ Café Servers must have the ability to multi-task, be customer-service oriented, and express a willingness to do whatever it takes to exceed guest expectations.

Successful applicants will be well-dressed, have a great sense of humor, show discretion, have an interest in the performing arts, and be timely.  Please have at least one year of prior experience working with the public. Successful applicants must have availability in the evenings during the week, with occasional weekends, and around the holidays.  Note: there are no performances on Thanksgiving or Christmas Day.  In addition to working in a unique and dynamic environment, employees also enjoy periodic complimentary tickets.  Compensated training will begin during the week of August 26th.

FOOD & BEVERAGE SUPERVISOR

McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, the region’s leading performing arts center, located in Princeton, NJ, is looking for a motivated Food & Beverage Supervisor Servers to work evening and weekend performances throughout the season from September 2016 through June 2017.  Food & Beverage Supervisor serves as a leader at McCarter’s on site café.  Responsibilities include: leading a small team, organizing special events, food handling, cash handling, inventory control, maintaining safety and sanitation standards. Must be an outgoing, results-driven individual who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, and express a willingness to do whatever it takes to exceed guest expectations. Wine knowledge is preferred.

SECURITY STEWARD

McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, the region’s leading performing arts center, located in Princeton, NJ, is looking for motivated Security Stewards Servers to work evening and weekend performances throughout the season from September 2016 through June 2017.  Security Stewards are an important role in the guest experience and creates positive moments for our guests as they are welcomed and move throughout the theatre. They are responsible for: the overall flow of traffic in our circular driveway before and after performances, facilitating donor and accessible parking needs, ensuring that patrons move in and out of the theatre safely, being in contact with Princeton University Public Safety if a situation arises, assisting the performing artist when they interact with the public, and checking to make sure that fire exits are clear.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT CASUAL LABOR – STAGE OPERATIONS

McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, NJ has opportunities for casual employment in stage lighting and stage carpentry. Assignments include load-in, focus and strike of our Theatre Series productions and Presented events and may occasionally include run crew positions. Applicants should have previous professional back stage experience, must be able to lift heavy equipment and scenery and be comfortable working on ladders and elevated platforms. Stage rigging, scene shop carpentry or audio experience also a plus.

McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, NJ has opportunities for casual employment in scenic carpentry and metal fabrication. These assignments require demonstrated proficiency in theatrical set construction and prior experience in a professional shop setting. Work may also include participation in load-ins and strike of our Theatre Series productions and Presented events. Applicants must be able to lift and carry heavy materials and scenery.
