CARPENTER

McCarter seeks a Carpenter to join our Scene Shop staff. Strong woodworking skills are a must; welding, automation, and/or rigging experience also a plus. Duties include interpreting shop drawings, building scenery with various materials (wood, steel, foam, plastic, and fabric), loading in and striking scenery, maintenance projects for the scene shop and theatre, and driving a van or box truck. Other duties may include additional stage work, including but not limited to hanging/focusing lights, rigging, loading in equipment and scenery from outside productions, and running shows. This position requires a minimum of two years professional theater experience, a valid driver’s license, a competent understanding of power tools, and the ability to lift and carry 75 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights (including in a personal lift or on the theatre grid). Experience driving a box truck is desirable. The ideal candidate will take pride in the quality of their work, accept and incorporate feedback, be able to work independently, maintain a collaborative mindset, encourage a safe working environment, and assume leadership roles during load ins and strikes. Position reports to the Technical Director.

Full-time seasonal position regularly runs from August to May. PROP ARTISAN

McCarter seeks an Artisan to join our Prop Shop staff. Strong furniture upholstery and refinishing skills are a must, plus proficiency with sewing and general crafts, as well as basic carpentry and painting skills. Carving, casting and molding skills a plus. The ideal candidate will combine artistic ability with knowledge of period styles and fine workmanship, accept and incorporate feedback, be able to work independently, maintain a collaborative mindset and encourage a safe working environment. Duties include interpreting design drawings, building and modifying props with various materials and finishes, loading, dressing and striking productions in the theatre, maintenance projects for the prop shop and driving a van or box truck. Other duties may include additional stage work, including loading in outside productions, and occasionally running a show. This position requires a minimum of two years professional theater experience, a valid driver’s license, a competent understanding of power tools, and the ability to lift and carry 75 pounds, climb ladders, and work at heights (including in a personal lift). WARDROBE

McCarter Theatre seeks dedicated individual with theatrical wardrobe experience to run shows for our six-play season. Primary responsibilities include care and maintenance of each production’s costumes and providing dressing assistance to performers as needed. Wig, hair and make-up experience a definite plus. When schedule allows, additional duties will include running wardrobe for presented shows and assisting in the costume shop. The successful candidate will have relevant professional experience at comparable regional theaters, excellent interpersonal skills, and will work well independently. This position reports to the Costume Shop Manager.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT CASUAL LABOR – STAGE OPERATIONS

McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, NJ has opportunities for casual employment in stage lighting and stage carpentry. Assignments include load-in, focus and strike of our Theatre Series productions and Presented events and may occasionally include run crew positions. Applicants should have previous professional back stage experience, must be able to lift heavy equipment and scenery and be comfortable working on ladders and elevated platforms. Stage rigging, scene shop carpentry or audio experience also a plus.

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT CASUAL LABOR – SCENE SHOP

These assignments require demonstrated proficiency in theatrical set construction and prior experience in a professional shop setting. Work may also include participation in load-ins and strike of our Theatre Series productions and Presented events. Applicants must be able to lift and carry heavy materials and scenery.

PARKING ATTENDANT / SECURITY PERSONNEL

McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, located in Princeton, NJ, is seeking a part-time security personnel primarily responsible for: coordinating donor and handicapped parking before performances, ensuring that patrons move in and out of the theatre safely, being in contact with Princeton University Public Safety if a situation arises, assisting the performing artist when they interact with the public, and checking to make sure that fire exits are clear. Successful applicants will be well-dressed, have a great sense of humor, show discretion, have an interest in the performing arts, and be timely. Please have at least one year of prior experience working with the public. Successful applicants must have availability in the evenings during the week, with occasional weekends. In addition to working in a unique and dynamic environment, employees also enjoy periodic complimentary tickets. Final candidates must complete a background check successfully.

CONCESSIONS SELLER

McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, the region's leading performing arts center, is looking for motivated Concessions Sellers who will work at our concessions bars, as well as our onsite cafe during performances. This is a part-time, seasonal position.

Successful candidates can multi-task, are customer-service oriented, have reliable transportation, have the ability to stand for up to three hours, as well as the ability to lift 40 pounds. We are looking for individuals with customer service experience who are outgoing, motivated, positive, and who take pride in their work. The Concessions Seller serves alcoholic beverages, but previous bartending experience is not required. Evening and weekend availability is a must.  Final candidates must complete a background check successfully.
