SCENE SHOP CARPENTER

McCarter Theatre seeks Scene Shop Carpenter. Must have strong woodworking skills. Welding, automation and/or rigging experience also a plus. McCarter’s Scene Shop produces scenery for 5-6 mainstage productions each season, as well as various smaller projects as needed. Responsibilities also include load-ins, strikes, and other onstage duties as assigned.

Candidates must have a minimum of two years professional theater experience, and be able to lift and carry heavy scenery, climb ladders and work on grid. A valid driver’s license is required and previous box-truck driving experience is desirable. Position reports to the Technical Director. Full-time, seasonal position regularly runs August to May and offers a competitive compensation package, including health benefits, paid vacation, flexible spending accounts, and retirement plan. ASSISTANT HOUSE MANAGER

The McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ is seeking charismatic Assistant House Managers who are available to work evening and weekend performances throughout the season from September 2015 through June 2016. This part-time, seasonal position is a core part of the Front of House staff who will represent McCarter Theatre and its vision to patrons, artists and other guests. This position also works closely with Stage Management and Production crews in order to ensure that the performance runs smoothly and that Artistic needs are met. Under the supervision of the House Services Manager, the AHM will facilitate the running of shows from the patron’s point-of-view, which includes the following responsibilities:

  • Managing and motivating Front of House Staff members including bartenders, ticket scanning personnel, and Security personnel
  • Facilitating the flow of patrons while in the theatre to ensure that the performance begins sharply at the appropriate time.
  • Being a warm, engaging leader for the team of volunteer ushers
  •  Interacting with patrons to ensure great guest service while upholding seating policies
  • Executing emergency evacuation procedures
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the house manager

We are looking for individuals with the following qualities -

  • A passion for the performing arts
  • Emits a sense of approachable confidence
  • Excellent customer service skills that embody a “Patron First” mentality
  • Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of supervisory or managerial experience
  • Ability to take charge of a situation, delegate, and multi-task
  • Cash handling experience
  • Being comfortable being on their feet
  • Is detail-oriented and can constantly anticipate what comes next in order to keep things moving
  • Ability to think out of the box in a time-sensitive environment
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and during the holidays. Please note that there is no performance on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.

PARKING ATTENDANT / SECURITY PERSONNEL

McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, located in Princeton, NJ, is seeking a part-time security personnel primarily responsible for: coordinating donor and handicapped parking before performances, ensuring that patrons move in and out of the theatre safely, being in contact with Princeton University Public Safety if a situation arises, assisting the performing artist when they interact with the public, and checking to make sure that fire exits are clear. Successful applicants will be well-dressed, have a great sense of humor, show discretion, have an interest in the performing arts, and be timely. Please have at least one year of prior experience working with the public. Successful applicants must have availability in the evenings during the week, with occasional weekends. In addition to working in a unique and dynamic environment, employees also enjoy periodic complimentary tickets.

BARTENDER

McCarter Theatre Center for the Performing Arts, the region’s leading performing arts center, is looking for a motivated Bartender who will work in our concessions bars as well as our onsite café, Terra Teatro.

This is a part-time position and applicants must have the ability to multi-task, be customer-service oriented, have a willingness to do whatever it takes to exceed guest expectations, as well as reliable transportation. We are looking for outgoing, motivated individuals who take pride in their work. Prior customer service experience is a plus. Applicants must be available to work, evenings, weekends and around the holidays. Note: there are no performances on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.
