Core Curriculum Standards

According to the NJ Department of Education, “experience with and knowledge of the arts is a vital part of a complete education.”  Our production of Argonautika and the activities outlined in this guide are designed to enrich your students’ education by addressing the following specific Core Curriculum Standards for Visual and Performing Arts:

All students will use aesthetic knowledge in the creation of and in response to dance, music, theater and visual arts.

All students will demonstrate an understanding of the elements and principles of dance, music, theater and visual arts.

All students will develop, apply, and reflect upon knowledge of the process of critique.
1.5
All students will understand and analyze the role, development, and continuing influence of the arts in relation to world cultures, history, and society.


Viewing Argonautika and then participating in the pre- and post-show discussions and activities suggested in this resource guide will also address the following Core Curriculum Standards in Language Arts Literacy:

All students will write in clear, concise, organized language that varies in content and form for different audiences and purposes.

All students will demonstrate an understanding of the elements and principles of dance, music, theater and visual arts.

All students will access, view, evaluate and respond to print, non-print and electronic texts and resources.

In addition, the production of Argonautika, as well as the resource guide activities, will help to fulfill the following Social Studies Core Curriculum Standards:

All students will apply knowledge of spatial relationships and other geographic skills to understand human behavior in relation to the physical and cultural environment.
