The greatest epic of western literature, Odysseus’s voyage is the subject of an innovative participatory style of children’s theater being developed by McCarter’s Education Department. The only scenery is the imagination of the audience, as they, together with an ensemble of professional actors, create every facet of the theatrical experience. Students not only interact with characters in this tale from ancient Greece, but they also play characters such as Penelope, Hermes, Poseidon, the sailors of Odysseus and many others, as they go on a journey unlike any they have ever experienced before.
