Contemporary Dance from Cuba:
MALPASO DANCE COMPANY

October 18-19, 2017

As the “crown jewel” in the emerging Cuban contemporary dance scene, Malpaso Artistic Director Osnel Delgado has been able to attract both international choreographers and new voices in Cuban choreography. With balletic precision and muscular, grounded footwork, Malpaso’s dancers are a sheer delight to watch, not only in Delgado’s own work (like Ocaso) but in that by Ron K. Brown (Why You Follow) and Indomitable Waltz (Aszure Barton)—all three of which will be part of their McCarter debut program. (Berlind)

SAVION GLOVER
November 17, 2017

Savion Glover brings the latest edition of his genius, another exuberant celebration of tap to sound: PLaYz’ Trane. Glover adds yet another dimension to the art of tap, combining his mastery of the complexities of jazz phrasing with wild improvisations, structures, and deconstruction. (Matthews)

HUBBARD STREET DANCE CHICAGO
January 16, 2018

Currently celebrating its 40th anniversary and now under the artistic direction of Glen Edgerton, the toast of the Chicago dance scene Hubbard Street Dance combines explosive energy, theatrical jazz, and the technique of classical ballet into a style uniquely its own. (Matthews)

LES BALLETS TROCKADERO DE MONTE CARLO
April 22, 2018

The “Trocks,” as they are affectionately known, have reigned supreme as the world’s foremost all-male comic ballet troupe, dancing the fine line between high art and high camp. Donning drag to perform their faithful (sort of) renditions that poke fun at the conventions of “serious” dance, they parody classical works from Swan Lake to Giselle and choreographers from Balanchine to Martha Graham.
