A new draft

Posted by Shirley Jo Finney on July 31st, 2007

Why did I ever agree to writing in this blog??

This morning I woke up to re-read my 2nd entry (panic). I promise never to write late at night again. I had to SOS Adam. Thank you, Adam, for watching out. (smile)

Well, I spoke with Lydia today. She has been busy re-writing our play. She sent pages to me and Emily. When I spoke with her this morning she said she is pleased with what she had done and knows there is more work to do. “I have to step back,” she said. We talked for a while, then she informed me she was going to bed. We hung up and I printed out the pages. I sat down in my favorite chair, looked out over the mountains, and inhaled a deep breath to center myself. I began to read. When I had finished, I spoke out loud: “No wonder she is tired, she has done major work.” The style of the piece is getting stronger. It flows. It is a good draft.

I cannot believe we begin a week from this Friday.

I have packed up the boxes, and they are ready to be shipped tomorrow.

I wonder if anyone would mind not hearing from me every day.

I remember when I read THE ARTIST’S WAY, one of the main exercises that you had to do was Journal everyday. It didn’t matter what you wrote — the discipline was writing to connect with your deeper voice. Unblocking. It was the 1st thing you had to when you woke up in the morning, sort of like a clearing house / a meditation before you engaged in the world. Maybe I will incorporate that discipline when I arrive next week. I will write in the morning–maybe I will have more clever and interesting things to contribute.

I don’t know how Lydia and other writers do what they do. I have to take my hat off them.

Writers are a special group of people / They are our myth makers / The word / Words have power. Is there a place beyond language where communication lives?

I marvel at the gifts people come to the planet with.

Well that all for now… hang in there–if there is anyone out there listening.

peace and care
