I realize that the play runs for only a few more days, but if you love theater as I do I highly recommend that you see it. The play is wonderful - it is funny, tragic, mysterious and moving, and there is no single "message". I found that I was able connect with the material on an emotional level as well as appreciate the play as a finely-crafted work of art.

The humorous, but ultimately tawdry and tragic, vaudeville frame provides a terrific vehicle for the exploration of the themes of possession, violation and the relationship between an artist/playwright and his or her art. It also provides an interesting viewing experience as the viewer watches the actor's relationship to the play and reacts to it on his or her own level. To me, the emotional element of the play was most compelling, as several of the scenes are absolutely haunting.

Finally, I think that the presentation would have been extremely difficult to pull off without B.D. Wong. His ability to play all of the diverse characters and sustain the comic and tragic elements of the play was simply amazing, let alone the non-stop singing and dancing. He was great in M. Butterfly and Pacific Overtures, but I think that this play most fully demonstrates the range of his talent. I hope that he ultimately is able to take the play to Broadway or off-Broadway. I was so impressed that I want to try to see it again before it leaves McCarter.

Many thanks to B.D. Wong and McCarter!
