Thirteen-year-old piano prodigy Joey Alexander has set the jazz world agog with his keyboard genius. Hailing from Jakarta, Indonesia, he has been wowing critics and fellow musicians alike, including Wynton Marsalis who called him “my hero who plays with the emotional depth like that of above a young adult.” On his Grammy-nominated debut album My Favorite Things (two nominations, plus a live performance on this year’s telecast!), Alexander performs a range of classic songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Monk, Coltrane, and Strayhorn with a deft touch, adventurous spirit, and improvisatory verve. You will want to say you were there to hear him and his trio, which includes bassist Dan Chmielinski and drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr.
