FRAULEIN ELSE
adapted by Francesca Faridany from the novella by Arthur Schnitzler directed by Stephen Wadsworth
Francesca Faridany dazzles in a tour-de-force performance as a high-spirited young Viennese woman forced into a reality entirely at odds with her romantic imagination. While vacationing at a luxurious spa, Else receives a telegram that sends her into a moral and emotional tailspin. Torn between loyalty to her family and her own self-esteem, she discovers that her world is one in which everything has a price.
Director Stephen Wadsworth, hailed for numerous classical productions at McCarter (including, most recently, Don Juan), imbues the fin-de-siècle world of Fräulein Else with invigorating wit and daring.
