No tenor since the days of Pavarotti has created a greater stir in the opera world than has Germany’s Jonas Kaufmann. His meteoric rise to stardom has found audiences and critics alike reaching for superlatives in talking about his Faust and Siegmund (in the Ring Cycle) this past season at the Met where he returns next spring in title role of Wagner’s Parsifal. For his McCarter recital, Mr. Kauffman will sing Schubert's complete song cycle of Die schoene Müllerin (The Fair Maid of the Mill), along with his longtime pianist partner, Helmut Deutsch.
"Jonas Kaufmann is so supercharged a heldentenor that it seems cliched to praise his immense talent. He can sing practically everything. What's more, he sings it all in a superbly musical and personal way; and what's even more than that, every moment he's on stage he is intensely and viscerally engaged from his toes to the tips of his tousled sable curls." - Musical America
"Kaufmann is king! He is truly one of the great singers of our time, and probably the consensus for the most excting tenor around right now." - The New York Times
