MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL ON TOUR: 55TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
featuring Dee Dee Bridgewater, Christian McBride, Benny Green, Lewis Nash, Chris Potter & Ambrose Akinmusire
The Monterey Jazz Festival—the world’s oldest and longest running jazz festival—celebrates its 55th anniversary with an all-star collective of artists in an evening of multi-faceted jazz, both instrumental and vocal. Anchoring the proceedings is music director Christian McBride, the jazz world’s premier bassist, and leader of his own big band. The “singer with the band” is none other than Grammy and Tony Award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater, host of NPR’s JazzSet. And joining them are saxophonist Chris Potter, whose singular voice distills saxophone dialects from Bird to Michael Brecker; pianist Benny Green, who cut his teeth with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers at the tender age of 24; and jazz’s quintessential drummer Lewis Nash; plus others to be announced.
