Plays and Performances in Context
This class is designed for theatergoers who are insight seekers eager to take deep dives into dramatic texts and learn about a work’s social, cultural, and historical context, as well as its creative origins and artistic intention—all the while engaging in lively discussion. We will pair published works with recorded or streamed performances/readings that can be accessed virtually.

About The Teaching Artist
Paula T. Alekson is McCarter Theatre Center’s Artistic Engagement Manager. She currently oversees artist-audience engagement and community partnership projects and initiatives, including artist discussions, scholarly panels, pre-show talks, community play readings, and other events and programs that offer opportunities for learners of all ages to deepen and enhance their experience of the performances on McCarter’s stages—virtual and in-person. Prior to McCarter, Paula taught theatre studies at her alma mater, Mount Holyoke College. She holds an MFA in Playwriting from Brandeis University and PhD in Drama from Tufts University.
