Community Partnerships

Homefront

McCarter is honored to be part of a long-standing partnerships with the Arts Council of Princeton and Homefront, a Trenton-based community organization that supports families in unstable housing situations. Several times a month, McCarter staff and teaching artists work with the Arts Council to offer a variety of creative opportunities for kids ages 4-18, including acting and design workshops, field trips to performances, and visits from world-class guest artists. In 2015, McCarter also began offering monthly drama and playwriting classes for adults at Homefront’s Family Shelter Campus. This popular program has grown to be one of the best-attended activities at the shelter.

Trenton Middle School Drama Clubs

Working closely with our partners at Mercer Street Friends and The Children’s Home Society, McCarter offers semester-long drama club programs at Trenton Middle Schools. McCarter’s first-rate teaching staff travel to schools in Trenton to lead on-site after school programs focusing on personal expression, spoken word, creative writing, and performance skills at no cost to the school or student participants.

D.O.V.E.S Correctional Facility

McCarter is proud to partner with this residential program for young women transitioning out of the juvenile justice system. The participants attend student matinees and participate in workshops with visiting artists to explore self-expression, writing, improvisation, and collaboration.
