Who We Are

Core Values

Excellence: We offer an unparalleled variety of entertaining and thought-provoking programming, produced to the highest artistic standards and with the finest of the world’s theater and performing artists. We strive for excellence and integrity in our artistry, as well as in our administration, management, customer service, and patron experience.

Imagination: We offer performances across all genres that inspire audiences and artists to expand their horizons through empathy, imagination, and intellectual stimulation. We commission, develop, and produce ambitious new works that contribute to the national and international repertoire; and we produce provocative new renditions of classic plays and modern masterpieces. We identify and nurture promising artists early in their careers and support them as their talents and reputations grow.

Community: We create and present work that engages in the current dialogue and relevant questions of our time. We share stories that resonate across cultural divides and foster meaningful conversation about world events. We make the arts accessible to all by cultivating and welcoming diverse audiences, deepening the experience of attendees, and extending the artistry on our stages into schools and communities.

Diversity: Our programming offers a wide assortment of genres, artistic styles, and subject matter. Through our extensive and diverse array of artistic and educational programs we offer a point of entry for all who wish to engage with McCarter. We are committed to creating and sustaining a vibrant and inclusive environment where employees, artists, and audience members feel welcome and respected, and actively participate in welcoming and respecting those around them.

Joy: We offer performances and experiences that uplift the spirit, delight the heart, and engage the mind. We find joy in the rigor of the artistic process and we take great care to ensure that McCarter remains unsurpassed as a cultural destination to discover, share, create, and experience meaningful art.
