Princeton University Partnerships
McCarter is an independent non-profit organization housed on the Princeton campus. Princeton University owns and operates the McCarter Theatre Center building and the Berlind Theatre is a shared space that hosts both McCarter’s professional productions and student performances. The historic Princeton Triangle club performs on the Matthews Theatre stage several times throughout the year. McCarter and Princeton have a long and rich history of partnership. McCarter staff often teach or guest lecture at the university’s Lewis Center for the Arts and students from Princeton join us as summer interns and assist in rehearsals and educational programs. Faculty members regularly participate as expert panelists, scholars, and strategic partners for activities related to our Theater Series and LAB events. McCarter is also privileged to have many senior Princeton University faculty and staff and who bring expertise to us as members of McCarter’s Board of Trustees.
McCarter and Princeton University collaborate frequently on special initiatives in which students, scholars, and professional artists intersect. Recent projects include: The Ground on Which We Stand symposium on August Wilson, The Every 28 Hours Plays, The Princeton and Slavery Project, Memory and the Work of Art, and the Maria Irene Fornes Institute Symposium.
