Jeremy Denk, piano
May 1, 2018
Venue Matthews Theatre
Jeremy Denk has carved out his own unique place as a recitalist, focusing on a thought-provoking repertoire that ranges from Beethoven to the two Ives Sonatas, the fiendishly difficult Ligeti Etudes, and Bach’s Goldberg Variations (No. 1 on Billboard’s Classical Chart). His recital this season will include Beethoven’s Sonata No. 30 Op. 109 and the Schumann Fantasy, but also Prokofiev’s rarely heard Visions Fugitives. How many pianists can you name who have won both a MacArthur “Genius Grant” and the Avery Fisher Prize? Denk also finds the time to be a journalist as well. His blog, “Think Denk,” where he recounts his touring experiences, is fascinating to follow and provides additional insights into his arresting sensitivity and wit.
Program: Mozart: Rondo in A Minor, K. 511 | Prokofiev: Visions Fugitives, Op.22 | Beethoven: Sonata No. 30, Op. 109 | Schumann: Fantasy in C, Op. 17
