Widely known as “the Queen of Modern Folk Music,” singer/songwriter Anaïs Mitchell is first and foremost a storyteller. She’s been a cult figure for a decade with her first acoustic CD, but really hit her stride as the composer (and star) of the smash off-Broadway hit Hadestown, her folk opera based on the Orpheus myth and set in a post-apocalyptic Depression Era. Ten years in the making, it won raves, sold out every performance, and earned this accolade from The New York Times: “inventive, beguiling and spellbinding. A formidable songwriting talent, Mitchell’s songs address contemporary angst with uncanny vision.” You’re going to want to say you were there as a major career happens.
Following her concert on March 17, join Mara Isaacs, former Resident Producer at McCarter, for an on-stage discussion with the artist concerning the creation of her hit off-Broadway musical Hadestown.
