Elevator Repair Service:

Gatz

FEBRUARY 15, 16, and 17

Venue Berlind Theatre

OVERVIEW

A work of singular imagination and intelligence.

The New York Times

One morning in the shabby office of a mysterious small business, an employee finds a copy of The Great Gatsby in the clutter on his desk. He starts to read it out loud and doesn't stop. At first his coworkers hardly notice. But after a series of strange coincidences, it's no longer clear whether he's reading the book or the book is transforming him…

8 hours long and with a cast of 13, Gatz is by far ERS's most ambitious endeavor yet — not a retelling of the Gatsby story but an enactment of the novel itself. F. Scott Fitzgerald's American masterpiece is delivered word for word, startlingly brought to life by an enchanting troupe of actors.

This performance will be presented as a marathon eight-hour event starting at 2:00pm, including two intermissions and a dinner break.

The production has toured around the world since 2006 (including a limited engagement at McCarter in 2011) and has received numerous awards throughout the years, including the 2011 Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Alternative Theatrical Experience and Outstanding Director, 2011 Obie Award for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor, and the 2009 Theatre Communications Group Peter Zeisler Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement.
