OVERVIEW
Trailblazing… one of his generation’s brightest jazz luminaries
Time Out New York
If jazz today has a Renaissance man, it is Vijay Iyer—pianist, bandleader, composer, educator, Harvard professor, MacArthur Award fellow, and regular winner of every jazz poll under the sun. Put it all together and you have a multifarious creator widely regarded as the most innovative figure in contemporary American jazz, exploring the outer reaches of jazz, pop, and electronica with equal curiosity. Rolling Stone called his sextet’s debut album Far From Over “the shape of jazz to come,” consolidating a union of musicians and material into a synthesis that one could almost call “the sound of Iyer”—stunning for the virtuosity of its players and its formal daring.
Join us for a pre-show conversation at 7:15pm with the artists and Princeton University's Director of Jazz Rudresh Mahanthappa.
Join us in McCarter’s Lockwood Lobby from 5:00pm – 8:00pm on June 7, 8, 14, 15, and 22!
There will be delicious food and drinks available for purchase, plus music and activities for the whole family.
Pre-show admission and activities are FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC.
