McCarter Live at the Library with Emily Mann and Mary McDonnell
TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, 2019 FROM 7:00 - 8:30PM
Venue Princeton Public Library – Community Room
McCarter Theatre Center’s Artistic Director and Resident Playwright Emily Mann will be joined in conversation by stage, film, and television actor Mary McDonnell (Execution of Justice, Dances with Wolves, Passion Fish, Major Crimes, Battlestar Galactica) who plays the role of Gloria Steinem in McCarter’s upcoming production of Gloria: A Life, written and restaged by Mann.
Emily and Mary will speak about their decades-long friendship and artistic reunion on Gloria: A Life. Emily will share how she came to adapt Gloria Steinem’s life into a work of documentary theater, their resulting friendship, and the choices made to shape and tell Gloria’s story. Mary will talk about her celebrated career as a performer, what drew her to this artistic project, and her thoughts on and approach to playing Steinem. They will also share details about the transformation of the Berlind Theatre for the production, their collaboration with their diverse and dynamic acting ensemble, and about the nature and intention of Gloria: A Life’s “Act Two.” Please join us for an intimate and fascinating discussion, which will include a Q&A with the audience.
This event will take place in Princeton Public Library’s Community Room (on the first floor) at 64 Witherspoon Street, Princeton, NJ.
No RSVP or ticket is required to attend this event; it is free and open to the public.
This is a Princeton Public Library and McCarter Theatre Center community partnership event.
