OVERVIEW

The night belonged to the American soprano Christine Goerke... she brought effortless power, gleaming sound and dramatic intensity to this unforgettable Elektra, earning an ovation so ecstatic she was overcome with teary emotion.

The New York Times

Dramatic soprano Christine Goerke is a vocal superstar when it comes to the heroines of Wagner’s operas—arguably the finest Wagnerian soprano in the world. Her Brünnhilde in the Ring Cycle is the gold standard around the world, from La Scala to Covent Garden to the Met, as are her Elektra and Turandot in the operas of Strauss and Puccini. As New York Magazine put it, “Those of us lucky enough to hear her in her prime will treasure the memory until we become insufferably nostalgic.”

Her performance at McCarter will include songs by Strauss, Brahms, Berg, and Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder.
