Venue Matthews Theatre
Accessibilty Wheelchair accessibility to the stage for readers will be provided and ASL interpretation will be available for this event.

This holiday season, lovers of A Christmas Carol are invited to take part in a unique telling of Charles Dickens’ classic story much beloved for decades by the McCarter audience. McCarter’s A Christmas Carol Community Play Reading is a free event created for the community and will feature the community itself, as readers and audience members—both are needed!

The adapted and abridged A Christmas Carol@Home 5-Stave Script from 2020 will be utilized and presented “McCarter Community Play Reading-style”—that is, the roles will be cast and recast from stave to stave. Readers of all ages and all walks—races/ethnicities, genders, ages, abilities, sexual orientations, religions, languages, and countries of origins—are needed to people the characters in this inclusive-community casting endeavor. No performance experience necessary!

Also incorporated into this event will be choral carol singing. We will raise the roof on the Matthews Theatre with holiday song and cheer for the first time in two years as a community!
