ABOUT THE EVENT

In advance of McCarter’s opening of the new musical Dreaming Zenzile by Somi Kakoma, McCarter and the Princeton Public Library partner to screen Mika Kaurismäki’s 2011documentary biography on the iconic “Zenzile” herself: South African singer, activist, and international star, Miriam Makeba.

Mama Africa is a dynamic documentary that traces Makeba’s life and fifty-year career in music through rare archival footage of her performances, press conferences, and intimate moments, and features interviews with her family, friends, collaborators, and those whose careers she inspired and influenced.
