An Intimate Evening with Dessa
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2022 at 8:00PM
Venue Member Lounge
OVERVIEW
Three part harmonies, existential philosophy, witty monologue, and one spilled drink. Dessa and her band (Aviva Jaye, harp; Joshua Holmgren, Keys) are returning to McCarter to read performance poetry from her just-published collection Tits on The Moon (Rain Taxi), share tour stories, and perform new music. Expect an intimate show that flexes language in all forms. The event will include a Q&A, some adult language, and a carousel of emotions. The ticket price includes a copy of Tits on the Moon and Dessa will be signing after the show.
Dessa is a writer and touring musician who splits her time between Minneapolis, Manhattan, and a tour van cruising at 6 miles per hour above the posted limit. She works across genres, writing essays (which have appeared in The New York Times Magazine and National Geographic Traveler), memoir (her book My Own Devices was published by Dutton) and poetry (often presented by Rain Taxi). As a musician, she contributed to The Hamilton Mixtape and has recorded ballads, rap bangers, and a live album with the Grammy-winning Minnesota Orchestra. For tour dates and new creative work, find her online at @dessadarling (twitter/facebook), @dessa (instagram), and dessawander.com
