"Beware the Ides of March" Sonnet Summit
TUESDAY, MARCH 14, 2023 at 7:00PM to 9:00PM
VENUE The Princeton Public Library - Community Room
OVERVIEW
To me, fair friend, you never can be old,
For as you were when first your eye I ey'd,
Such seems your beauty still. Three winters cold,
Have from the forests shook three summers' pride,
Three beauteous springs to yellow autumn turned,
In process of the seasons have I seen,
Three April perfumes in three hot Junes burned,
Since first I saw you fresh, which yet are green…
Love Shakespeare? Savor the sonnets? Join us for an in-person celebration of Shakespeare's Sonnets—a favorite event experience for McCarter Theatre’s perennially popular Shakespeare Community Reading Group and an opportunity for both reunion and welcoming newcomers into the joy of reading Shakespearean poetry aloud. Intended for all ages and experience levels, this is a fun and informal way to personally experience Shakespeare’s gift to poetic posterity. All are welcome as readers or listeners. No previous experience with Shakespeare or the Sonnets is necessary!
Readers will be selected at random to draw sonnet numbers and then stand and deliver said sonnets at a lectern for the delight and approbation of the assembled Shakespeare-loving crowd. (Would you like a crash course on sonnets? Click HERE!)
A volume of the Sonnets for the lectern will be supplied, but please bring your own copy if you would like to read along. And bring a friend too!
Please join us! All are invited! No registration necessary and walk-ins always welcome.
This is a Princeton Public Library and McCarter Theatre Center community partnership event.
