SWEET HONEY IN THE ROCK® has been described as one of the most vibrant, versatile, and ever-relevant musical ensembles performing today. Founded in Washington, D.C. in 1973, the GRAMMY®-nominatedgroup was built on the principles of empowerment, education, and entertainment. The current lineup features Carol Maillard, Louise Robinson, Aisha Kahlil, Nitanju Bolade Casel, and Rochelle Rice, with bassist Romeir Mendez and American Sign Language interpreter Barbara Hunt.
For more than five decades, Sweet Honey in the Rock® has created music that is both socially conscious and spiritually uplifting. Their songs address civil and human rights, women’s issues, love, loss, gun violence, and the power of community. The ensemble bridges generations and genres, blending gospel, blues, jazz, and African rhythms into a singular and soulful experience.
They have appeared on many of the world’s most celebrated stages including Carnegie Hall (more than thirty appearances), the Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Audiences around the world continue to be inspired by their message of hope, resilience, and harmony.
