Internationally acclaimed musician and educator Oran Etkin brings his beloved Timbalooloo show to life in an interactive musical adventure for the whole family. Known for performances on concert stages around the world and on a Grammy Award–winning album, Etkin is equally at home surrounded by children, spinning imaginative stories where instruments become living, breathing characters.
Over the past two decades, Etkin has developed Timbalooloo, a play based musical approach that now reaches more than 10,000 children each year through concerts, recordings, and classes taught by a global network of Timbalooloo teaching artists. The show begins with a surprise: Clara—who turns out to be Clara Net the clarinet—has fallen asleep and arrives at the concert still tucked into her bed! With the audience’s help, Oran gently wakes her up, and she calls for her mother, Big Mama Tuba, whose deep voice rumbles from the back of the hall. Together, they travel across the globe through rhythm, song, and storytelling—inviting children to sing, drum and dance along as they discover how music connects cultures and sparks creativity.
All guests must have their own ticket and children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Babies under one year sitting on laps are free, but must reserve a ticket. Please contact us at patronservices@mccarter.org and we will be happy to assist you.
